Boise State Broncos Start Spring Practice Later Than Normal

Boise State Broncos start their spring practice on Thursday, marking a later-than-normal beginning to their spring schedule.

What's behind the schedule change?

The change in schedule comes after the NCAA moved the college football transfer portal window to a single opening in January, allowing Boise State to adjust their calendar.

Boise State football coach Spencer Danielson saw this as an opportunity to change the team's schedule, avoiding the break in practices caused by spring break.

How will the new schedule work?

The Broncos will host three practices a week, with an uninterrupted schedule, as they get ready for the 2026 season in the fall, starting with a game against Oregon Ducks on 2026-09-05.

Danielson said the new schedule allows the team to get eight weeks of offseason training in before spring break, and then start practice without interruption.

What's the status of key players?

Boise State quarterback Maddux Madsen is "ready to roll" after injuries marred the end of the 2025 season, according to Danielson.

Madsen missed the final three games of the regular season with an ankle injury but returned to lead Boise State to a Mountain West Championship Game victory against UNLV.

What's next for the team?

The Broncos will be without several key pieces this spring, including offensive linemen Roger Carreon, Dalton Metoyer, Jake Steele, and Kyle Cox, who are recovering from offseason surgery.

Danielson expects most of these players to be healed and ready for the 2026 season.

The team's focus is now on the upcoming spring game on April 25, and then the start of the 2026 season, with their first game against Oregon Ducks on September 5.
